Canadian Cancer Society Relay For LifeJune 06, 2009Canadian Cancer Society's Annual Relay for Life will be held on Sat. June 6 from 11am-11pm at the Creston & District Community Complex, 312 - 19th Ave N.
A Team Captain forms teams of up to 12 people. Each team member pays a registration fee. We have a Regional Theme for our teams for 2009, Let's Make Cancer History. You can name and decorate your team tent, baton and costume all in a theme dedicated to a time in history or a musical period in history, ie as a Western team 'Roping a Cure' or perhaps as a bunch of Beatles 'BEATing cancer'
As Relay For Life is a Canadian Cancer Society fundraiser, participants are expected to raise money (at least $1200.00 for a team with 12 members or $100/member on average) obtaining 'up front' pledges, teams also hold fundraisers leading up to Relay Day, including garage sales, raffles, car washes or any other activity to raise funds as a team, for the team. Sometimes, a team chooses to solely fundraise as individuals or together as a group. The successful combination is a little of both!
Relay Day begins with a salute to survivorship with the Survivor's and Caregivers' Victory Lap-cancer survivors officially kick off the event by walking their lap on the track with cheers of support from the sidelines; caregivers walk in behind, lending the idea that we've got your back. For the remainder of the Relay at least one member of each team walks or runs around the track. Entertainment all day, great inter-activities food and fun will keep everyone energized! Relay Day winds down with a very special tribute to cancer survivors and to those who have lost the battle. Before and on the day of the event, individuals can purchase a luminary, in honour or in memory of a loved one. As darkness falls and candlelight procession around these luminaries will provide a moving memory.
Then, we all gather together after the Luminary for our uplifting Closing Fight Back Ceremony where we gather together and share how we can each fight cancer every day.
The Canadian Cancer Society's Greater Trail Relay For Life brings communities together to share in the enjoyable FUNdraiser!
The Steering Committee is actively seeking committed volunteers to add to our committee, volunteer groups, people to form teams and to assist on Relay Day itself.
