Getting In Hot WaterFeatured in In the Daily Buzz - Jan 10, 2011 Kristen Cook I'm no stranger to camping. I'm quite accustomed to setting up my tent, rolling out my sleeping bag, cooking pancakes over a fire. What I'm not so used to is combining these with January. Yes, I spent my weekend camping. Apart from a night in a homemade igloo I've not done much sleeping in actual snow. Not that I have managed to change that fact. The night was tolerable, but hardly what one would consider a comfortable temperature.
I won't lie. There were hot springs involved. According to my math (7+3) we spent ten hours sitting in the warm waters of White Swan Hot Springs. I can't say that I could be cajoled into attending a winter camping trip without the promise of getting ourselves in hot water.
There are a reasonable number of natural hot springs in our corner of the planet. I haven't discovered many of them but the promise of adventure is always there.
So far it's been worth it. Chilly air tugs at your shoulders and snow melts in your hair. Best of all conversation freely exists when you sit with friends in natural hot pools beneath a starry sky. No cell phones, no pressing engagements, no questioning social etiquette.
So, yes. I didn't sleep that much this weekend. I scurried over frozen rocks barefoot and changed out of a quickly freezing swimsuit in an outhouse. I'm tired and I don't regret a bit of it. We are fimiliar with Ainsworth, Radium and Fairmont... But never heard of anything else around the area. That sounds nice and toasty!
