Daily Buzz

No Peddlers Nor Agents

Somehow I've gone this much of my life with very limited fundraising experience. I once trudged door-to-door attempting to sell chocolate bars for the Sing For Joy Choir. As I recall we were raising funds for a trip I didn't even get to participate in.
Regardless, point is I have only participated in a single fundraising event. Perhaps it's because of this that I find myself with a shocking lack of understanding towards fundraising. I've developed/inherited a sort of mindset that if something is such a grand idea perhaps the participants can find it in themselves to fund it themselves.

Of course, I do see the faults in my reasoning. None-the-less it makes it all the more ironic that at my age and despite my childless state I am being required to participate in fundraising.

My other opinion on fundraising has always been that I will support their efforts if I'm interested in the cause. It will have nothing to do with the fact that I think I want an overpriced pie or box of cookies.

Unfortunately I'm raising for a cause that I think is of little concern to anyone who's not directly involved. I'm also selling raffle tickets. One of the more unfortunate forms of fundraising. Perhaps I just think that because I am the opposite of a gambler.

I'm not cut out for fundraising success. Or maybe I'm just pathetically inexperienced. Point is, maybe I'll have a little empathy for the next bottle drive that comes knocking on my door.

Good afternoon,Kristen. don't feel bad. I, myself HATE selling things. I figure if some one wants to buy something, they will ask where they could buy it (to support the function).I do some volunteer work for a local cause, and I have been know to tend bake-sale tables or sell raffle tickets... I have even been known to go door to door every now and again... Can't say that I enjoy it and want to do it all the time, but if it is for a good cause, I will try to support it. As for people wanting ME to buy something... Ha ha ha... Well that is 'very' touch and go. If I am strapped for cash at the time when someone wants me to buy something, then I`ll probably say no. It doesn`t matter whether I am entered to win a new car, or someone is selling those YUMMY chocolate covered almonds. AND if I know I can`t buy anything for their fundraiser, I`ll probably empty my change purse to donate to the cause.
